Hip Injuries in Hakuba: Ski & Snowboard Assessment and Treatment

Hip pain after a fall or a big day of skiing or snowboarding can come from several different sources - a deep hip labral tear, irritation on the outside of the hip (GTPS), or a tight, overloaded groin and adductor group. Because these can all present as "pain in the hip", a targeted assessment matters more here than almost anywhere else in the body. WORKING OUT WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING ON: we use specific movement and strength tests to differentiate between a labral issue deep in the joint, tendon irritation on the outside of the hip, and a groin strain - each needs a different treatment approach, and treating the wrong one can leave you sore for the rest of your trip. HOW WE TREAT IT: for GTPS and groin strains, most people respond well to load management, targeted strengthening and hands-on treatment within days. For a suspected labral tear, we help you manage symptoms conservatively and explain what further investigation might look like once you're home.
