Pelvic Injuries in Hakuba: From Bruising to Fractures

Pelvic injuries range hugely in severity - from a painful bruise after landing on ice, to a groin or adductor strain from an awkward split, right through to a high-energy fracture from a serious high-speed fall. Because the range is so wide, the most important first step is working out where you sit on that spectrum. OUR ASSESSMENT APPROACH: we start by checking whether you can weight-bear, screening for signs of a more serious fracture, and testing the specific muscles and joints involved, including the SIJ (sacroiliac joint), which is often missed as a source of pelvic and lower back pain after a fall. This tells us quickly whether you need same-day imaging or can begin hands-on treatment straight away. TREATMENT: most of what we see - contusions, SIJ irritation, and adductor or groin strains - responds well to a structured plan: manage the initial pain and swelling, then rebuild strength and control before you're back on snow. For anyone with a suspected high-energy pelvic fracture, our priority is safe management and a clear plan for getting you to appropriate imaging and specialist care.
